Best MONAT Products for Damaged Hair
Hair With MONAT · Updated August 14, 2026 · 7 min read

Damaged hair is a maintenance problem, not a repair problem. Hair is not living tissue, so nothing you apply undoes structural damage, but the right products make damaged hair look, feel and behave dramatically better while you grow it out.
What to buy first
- 01MONAT BOND IQ™ Shampoo and Conditioner, the foundation for stressed hair.
- 02REPLENISH Masque, one deep-conditioning treatment a week.
- 03REJUVABEADS™, targeted finishing for the look of split, frayed ends.
- 04BOND IQ™ Recovery Serum, if your ends are significantly worse than the rest.
The four habits that matter more than products
- Lower your heat tool temperature by 20 to 30 degrees and always use a leave-in first.
- Detangle from the ends upward, with conditioner in, using a wide-tooth comb.
- Book a micro-trim every 10 to 12 weeks so damage does not travel upward.
- Stop brushing soaking wet hair with a bristle brush.
How to tell how damaged your hair actually is
Take a single strand and stretch it gently when wet. Healthy hair stretches and springs back. Damaged hair either snaps immediately or stretches like chewing gum and does not recover. That test tells you whether you need bond care or simply more moisture.
Four kinds of damage, and why the fix is different for each
Chemical damage comes from bleach, permanent colour, relaxers and perms, all of which work by deliberately breaking internal bonds. It is the deepest form of damage and the one that most needs bond care rather than moisture.
Thermal damage comes from straighteners, curling tongs and blow-dryers used hot, often on hair that is not fully dry. Water inside the fibre turns to steam and forces its way out, leaving microscopic blisters in the cortex. The hair looks fine for months and then breaks all at once at the same length.
Mechanical damage is friction: brushing wet hair, rough towel-drying, tight elastics, cotton pillowcases, backcombing and clip-in weight. It is the most underestimated category and the cheapest to fix, because most of the solutions are habits rather than products.
Environmental damage is UV, chlorine, salt water and hard-water minerals. It roughens the cuticle and fades colour, and it compounds every other category. Recognising which two or three apply to you tells you where to spend, because a bond system will not fix a cotton pillowcase and a silk pillowcase will not fix bleach.
Triage: what to do in the first two weeks
Start with a wet-stretch test. Take a shed hair, wet it, and pull gently. Healthy hair stretches about a third and springs back. Damaged hair either stretches like elastic and stays stretched, which indicates a protein and bond deficit, or snaps immediately with no stretch at all, which indicates dryness and brittleness. That single test tells you whether to lead with BOND IQ or with RENEW and REPLENISH.
Stop all heat for fourteen days if you possibly can. Nothing in this guide works as well as removing the cause, and two weeks is long enough for the hair to stop actively deteriorating so you can judge what the products are doing.
Book a trim. Split ends cannot be repaired by any product from any brand, and a split travels upwards until it is cut. A dusting of half an inch usually removes the worst of it and makes the entire routine perform better.
Switch to a wide-tooth comb, use it only with conditioner in the hair, and change to a microfibre towel and a silk or satin pillowcase. Those four changes cost almost nothing and stop the daily attrition that undoes product work.

The product stack, in the order it should be built
Layer one, structure. BOND IQ Shampoo and Conditioner are the foundation for chemically or thermally damaged hair, with the Leave-In Crème on every wash and the Recovery Serum on the worst sections. Structure comes first, because moisture applied to a fibre with no integrity simply leaks straight back out.
Layer two, moisture. REPLENISH Masque once a week on damp mid-lengths and ends, left for twenty minutes with gentle heat. Damaged hair is porous, which means it absorbs quickly and loses quickly, so it needs the deep treatment more often than healthy hair does, not less.
Layer three, protection between washes. RESTORE Leave-In Conditioner for detangling and slip, and REJUVENIQE Oil Intensive as the sealing step on damp ends.
Layer four, targeted cosmetic finishing. REJUVABEADS is formulated for the appearance of split, frayed ends and should be used only on the last two inches, where the damage actually is. It is a cosmetic finish rather than a repair, and used correctly it makes ends look considerably less ragged between trims.

The moisture and protein balance nobody explains properly
Damaged hair needs both, and too much of either causes a distinct and recognisable problem. Too much protein or bond product with too little moisture produces hair that feels rigid, rough and squeaky, tangles badly and snaps when combed. Too much moisture with no protein produces hair that feels soft and lovely dry but goes limp, mushy and over-elastic when wet.
The practical rule is to alternate. For heavily damaged hair, run bond care twice a week and a hydrating masque once. As the hair recovers, shift towards bond care once a week and hydration twice. Reassess with the wet-stretch test every fortnight and adjust the ratio rather than switching everything at once.
Do not diagnose from how the hair feels the moment it dries, which is dominated by whatever styling product is on it. Judge from how it behaves wet, and from how much breakage collects in your comb.
Heat rules that preserve the recovery you paid for
Dry to eighty percent before any hot tool touches the hair. Straightening damp hair is the fastest route to thermal blistering, and it is extremely common because people are in a hurry.
Turn the dial down. Most fine and medium hair straightens perfectly well below 180 degrees Celsius, and coarse or coily hair rarely needs the top setting either. One slow pass at a lower temperature does less harm than three fast passes at maximum.
Always use a protective layer. The BOND IQ Leave-In Crème or a leave-in plus a drop of oil on the ends is the minimum, and the ends need it most because they are the oldest and most weathered part of the fibre.
Limit heat styling to twice a week during recovery and learn one heatless option that suits you, whether that is a loose overnight braid, a silk-wrap style or an air-dry with a styling cream and diffuser on cool.

A realistic recovery timeline and how to measure it
Days one to fourteen: the hair feels better within a wash or two, but that is slip and coating, not recovery. Do not draw conclusions yet.
Weeks three to six: less breakage in the comb, easier detangling, ends that stay smoother between washes. This is the first genuinely meaningful signal.
Weeks seven to twelve: improved elasticity on the wet-stretch test, colour that holds better, styles that last longer. This is where the routine proves itself.
Months four to six: new growth arrives undamaged, and as trims remove the worst of the old ends, the overall condition improves faster than the product alone could explain. That is normal and it is the point of the exercise. Damaged hair is not cured, it is grown out and protected while it goes, and every habit and product in this guide exists to make that process shorter and less visible.

Frequently asked questions
Can split ends be repaired?
No. Products smooth and disguise them; only a trim removes them.
How long does damaged hair take to improve?
Appearance improves within a few washes. Genuinely healthier hair takes as long as it takes to grow and trim out the damaged length.
