MONAT for Frizzy Hair
Hair With MONAT · Updated August 8, 2026 · 6 min read

Frizz happens when the cuticle is raised and the inside of the hair is thirsty. Humid air rushes in, strands swell unevenly and separate and what you see is a halo. Understanding that mechanism makes every anti-frizz recommendation obvious.
The anti-frizz routine
- 01Wash with RENEW Shampoo, dryness is the root cause.
- 02Condition with the Smoothing Deep Conditioner.
- 03Apply RESTORE Leave-In Conditioner while hair is still dripping wet.
- 04Dry with tension using a nozzle, airflow pointed down the shaft.
- 05Finish with two drops of REJUVENIQE® Oil on the surface layer only.
- 06Set with Flex Control Hairspray and use the Styling Cream & Taming Wand on stray hairs.
Technique beats product
- Wet application is non-negotiable, product on damp hair seals far less effectively.
- Swap terry towels for microfibre or a cotton t-shirt.
- Do not touch air-drying hair.
- Never brush dry hair if frizz is your main concern.
Frizz is a symptom, and it has four separate causes
Cause one is dryness. A fibre short on moisture pulls water out of humid air, swells unevenly along its length and lifts the cuticle. That is why frizz gets dramatically worse on damp days and why the fix starts with hydration rather than with a smoothing serum.
Cause two is damage. Chemically or thermally weakened cuticles cannot lie flat, so they catch light and each other. This frizz appears mostly in the mid-lengths and ends and often on colour-treated hair.
Cause three is friction. Cotton pillowcases, rough towels, brushing dry hair and even hands running through it all lift cuticle scales mechanically. This frizz appears in a halo around the crown and at the parting.
Cause four is simply new growth and broken hairs, which are shorter than the rest and stand up. This is not a problem to be solved, it is hair, and the goal there is to smooth and set rather than to eliminate.
Identifying which two dominate for you determines where the money goes, because a smoothing conditioner will not fix a cotton pillowcase and a silk pillowcase will not fix bleached ends.
The smoothing core of the routine
The Smoothing Deep Conditioner is the anchor product for frizz-prone hair because it addresses cause one and cause two at once, conditioning the fibre and helping the cuticle lie flatter. Apply it to damp mid-lengths and ends, comb through, and leave it for a full three to five minutes rather than rinsing straight away. Contact time is free performance.
Pair it with a hydrating cleanse rather than a clarifying one on most wash days. RENEW Shampoo keeps the moisture baseline high, and a high moisture baseline is what stops hair grabbing water from the air.
Finish with REJUVENIQE Oil Intensive on damp hair, pressed into the bottom two thirds. The lipid layer is the humidity barrier, and it is the step that separates hair that survives a rainy commute from hair that does not.
For hair that is frizzy because it is genuinely damaged, add the BOND IQ system for a period. Smoothing products manage the symptom; bond care addresses part of the underlying cause.

Drying technique matters more than any product
Do not rub with a terry towel. Squeeze the water out and blot with a microfibre towel or a cotton t-shirt. This single change removes a noticeable share of everyday frizz for most people.
Air-drying without product is the worst option for frizz-prone hair, because the cuticle dries in whatever position it lands in. Either apply a smoothing layer before air-drying, or blow-dry with tension.
When blow-drying, keep the nozzle on, point it down the hair shaft from root to tip, and use a brush with tension. The nozzle directs airflow along the cuticle instead of against it, which is the entire mechanism behind a salon blow-out.
Finish with the cool shot. Warm hair is still malleable, and cooling it while it is smooth sets it that way. Thirty seconds of cool air at the end holds a blow-dry considerably longer.
Finishing products, used in the right quantity
The Styling Cream and Taming Wand pairing exists for two different jobs. The cream is for the whole length, applied to damp hair to control the overall texture. The wand is for the halo: the short baby hairs and broken pieces around the parting and hairline that no amount of conditioner will ever lie flat. Applying a whole-head product to solve a hairline problem is how people end up with greasy, over-product hair.
Flex Control Hairspray holds a smooth finish without locking it into a helmet, and a light mist over a brush rather than directly onto the head distributes it far more evenly.
On dry hair mid-week, a single drop of oil warmed in the palms and smoothed over the surface is usually all a refresh needs. Resist the urge to reapply cream to dry hair, because it tends to sit on the surface and dull the shine.

Humidity strategy, from mildly damp to tropical
In mild humidity, the standard routine holds: hydrate, smooth, seal, and set with a light hold.
In high humidity, increase the seal and reduce the humectants. Humectants pull water from the air into the hair, which is helpful in dry climates and counterproductive in a heatwave, so lean on oils and creams rather than glycerin-heavy sprays.
In extreme humidity, stop fighting it and change the style. A slick low bun, a braid, or a deliberately textured look will always outperform a blow-out that is going to collapse anyway. Frizz is only a problem relative to the style you are attempting.
Hard water quietly worsens frizz all year round by leaving mineral deposits that roughen the cuticle. A monthly clarifying wash followed immediately by a deep conditioner resets it, as does a shower filter if the problem is persistent.
A weekly anti-frizz plan
Wash day one: RENEW Shampoo, Smoothing Deep Conditioner, oil on damp ends, blow-dry with the nozzle and a cool shot, taming wand at the hairline.
Day two: no wash. Refresh with one drop of oil on the surface and a light mist of hairspray over a brush.
Day three: dry shampoo at the root only if needed, low bun or braid to reduce friction.
Wash day two: repeat, but swap the conditioner for REPLENISH Masque if the ends feel dry, or use the BOND IQ system if the frizz is damage-driven.
Every night: silk or satin pillowcase, hair loosely tied with a fabric scrunchie. Every ten to twelve weeks: a trim, because frayed ends frizz no matter what you put on them.

Frizz control adjusted for your hair type
Fine, frizz-prone hair: the risk is weighing it down. Use the Smoothing Deep Conditioner on ends only, one drop of oil, and rely on drying technique and the taming wand at the hairline rather than on heavy creams.
Medium hair: the standard routine works, hydrating cleanse, smoothing conditioner, oil on damp ends, blow-dry with the nozzle and a cool shot.
Coarse or curly hair: layer more generously. Leave-in on soaking wet hair, a styling product for hold, then oil to seal, and let it dry undisturbed. Frizz on this hair type is nearly always under-hydration plus too much touching while drying.
Colour-treated or bleached hair: treat the frizz as damage first. Run bond care for a period, keep heat low, and expect the smoothing products to perform much better once the fibre is in better condition.

Frequently asked questions
Does anti-frizz product work in high humidity?
It reduces frizz significantly but nothing eliminates it entirely on a 95% humidity day. Well-hydrated, sealed hair simply has less to absorb.
Is frizz a sign of damage?
Not always, but damaged hair frizzes more because the cuticle is already lifted.
